Trade Show Research: FABTECH 2015

FABTECH is North America’s largest trade show for the metal manufacturing industry. Suppliers in metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing gather to display the newest products and innovations for industry professionals. The 2015 U.S. installment will take place November 9-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Read on for basic show information as well as tips on how to maximize ROI.

Show Information and Attendee Demographics

FABTECH 2015 expects to have approximately 40,000 attendees as well as 1,500 exhibitors covering over 650,000 net square feet of show space.

The 2013 Post Show Report is particularly relevant because it presents information from the last show held in Chicago. (Atlanta hosted the 2014 event.) In 2013, the top 10 industries represented by attendees were automotive, aerospace, agriculture, construction, energy, heavy equipment, mining/utilities/power generation, military/defense, oil/gas and other transportation.

2013 Attendees by the Numbers:

-       46 percent: First-time FABTECH visitors

-       62 percent: Attended no other shows in previous 12 months

-       11 percent: Visited from outside the U.S.

-       48 percent: Spent two-plus days on the show floor

-       81 percent: Either influenced or made buying decisions

-       43 percent: Had budgets of $200,000 or more

Exhibitors

The 2013 Post Show Report revealed that 160,705 total leads were collected for an average of 135 leads per exhibitor. In addition, 92 percent of FABTECH exhibitors said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of attendees, and 88 percent said the same about quantity. Overall, 94 percent of exhibitors were satisfied or very satisfied with their show experience.

In 2015, big names like Amada America, Inc. and TRUMPF are already on board, and registration is still open. Pricing information is available online, as well as what features and services are included. The basic pricing is as follows:

-       Up to 299 sq. ft. $32.00

-       300-999 sq. ft. $31.00

-       1,000 – 1,999 sq. ft. $29.75

-       2,000 – 4,999 sq. ft. $29.25

-       5,000 – 9,999 sq. ft. $28.00

-       10,000 – 14,999 sq. ft. $26.50

-       15,000 sq. ft. & more $25.50

Marketing and Education

FABTECH provides marketing assistance to help exhibitors get the most bang for their buck. Some resources include listings in the official show directory and on the FABTECH website, custom invitations, free show passes, logos and banner ads. A 2015 media kit will be available in May, according to the show site, and various sponsorship opportunities are also detailed here.

Like many trade shows, FABTECH displays a commitment to learning. There will be over 100 educational sessions to help attendees and exhibitors alike stay up on the current technology, network with other professionals and exchange best practices. Continuing education credits may even be available to individuals who attend programs by SME, the American Welding Society (AWS) or the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Int’l (FMA).
